The Myth of 'Not Enough Time'

One theme I’m noticing among people I'm working with currently is a shortage of time. Not enough time to take care of themselves, not enough time to be present with their families, not enough time to be with their direct reports.

And what has happened on each occasion (so far) is that our conversation has revealed to them they are locked into a busy narrative. Trying to deliver what they think they should be delivering not taking time to consider what is important to deliver and how they need to be in order to be able to deliver.

It takes a while for people to step off that treadmill but when they do and look back, they usually see they have time to do what they need to do and if not have the clarity to discern a way through.

It reminds me of the adage:

"You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day. Unless you're too busy, then you should sit for an hour."
