The Power of Permission: Giving Yourself the Green Light

Permission is a funny thing. Covid hit my house last week and I was feeling ‘not myself’ but testing negative. And because the red line wasn’t appearing the unconscious story I told myself was that I wasn’t ill and had to do all the things I’d normally do for as long as I’d normally do them.

The next day I tested positive and immediately it was OK to do only what I needed to do, watch TV in the middle of the day and sleep.

There was little or no difference in what I was feeling from one day to the next but I needed that external validation, permission, to slow down.

Often these boundaries around getting stuff done are helpful, keep us productive and fulfilled.

Sometimes they become inflexible and cross over into being rules. I invite you to notice when your desire to contribute stops being helpful and give yourself permission to choose what’s best for you.
