Tune In: Master the Art of Noticing Your Feelings

Historically I’ve not been good at checking where I’m at. I’d be fine and keep going until I wasn’t and I didn’t.

I still sometimes fall into the trap of not noticing the drip, drip of things wearing away at my ability to cope until I react and surprise myself as much as the recipient of my outburst.

On a good day now, with good days being in the majority, I notice any tightness in my chest, knots in my stomach or stiffness in my neck and ask myself ‘what’s causing this and what I want to do about it’ before it bubbles over.

I recognise now that those feelings are just trying to tell me something and are an amazing resource when I can tune into noticing them.

And why wait for someone else to tell you how you’re feeling when you can notice it for yourself?

### The Importance of Noticing Your Feelings

Noticing your feelings is helpful for several reasons:

1. **Self-Awareness**: By recognizing your emotions, you gain deeper insights into your inner world, understanding what drives your thoughts and behaviors. This self-awareness is the foundation for personal growth and self-improvement.

2. **Emotional Regulation**: Identifying your emotions early allows you to manage them effectively. Instead of being overwhelmed by intense feelings, you can respond thoughtfully and maintain emotional balance.

3. **Improved Relationships**: Understanding your emotions helps you communicate better with others. When you can express how you feel clearly and authentically, it fosters trust and connection in your relationships.

4. **Mental Health**: Regularly checking in with your emotions can prevent the buildup of stress and anxiety. It encourages a proactive approach to mental health, allowing you to address issues before they escalate.

5. **Decision-Making**: Emotions provide valuable information about your needs and desires. By noticing your feelings, you can make decisions that align with your true self, leading to a more fulfilling and authentic life.

In essence, noticing your feelings empowers you to live more consciously, authentically, and harmoniously.
